Guidelines for Purchasing Flights
Flights to Iceland arrive into the Keflavik International Airport (airport code: KEF). Participants should plan on arriving to the airport by 11 am on their expedition start date. Most flights from the U.S. take off the night before and are overnight flights arriving the next day. Global Treks staff will pick up the team at the airport upon arrival and transport everyone to the research base in Reykjavik (about 45 min drive).
Global Treks will transport the team to the airport on the last day of the expedition in the morning, so flights can be purchased to depart anytime on the final expedition day. Everyone will have to be out of the research base by 10 am on the last day. You will have the choice to be dropped off at the airport or if you have a later flight taken into the town of Reykjavik to hang out for the day.
If you wish to extend their stay earlier or later than the expedition dates, that’s no problem at all. Global Treks will pre-arrange a meeting place at the start of the expedition and assist with departures at the end of the trip. All interns should plan to leave the research base on the morning of the final expedition day.
Travel Insurance
For travel insurance, Global Treks and Adventures is not associated with anyone in particular or sell insurance directly. But, we have used insuremytrip.com in the past and had a good experience. They have several options you can review. There are also a million other options available online, so we recommend interns take their time and find a plan that fits individual preferences. Please note, while recommended, it is not required to purchase travel insurance.
